About marta
At marta, we build technology that makes high-quality home care accessible, transparent, and human. Our platform connects families and caregivers across Europe, creating trust, dignity, and simplicity in one of the most essential industries: elderly care.
After establishing ourselves as the technological leader in the live-in care market, we are now entering the next growth phase — scaling our product and engineering organization to deliver greater speed, stability, and impact. Our goal is clear: to set the new standard for technology in elderly care.
Your Role in our team
You are the technical owner of marta’s platform. You lead by guiding architectural decisions, ensuring the team delivers high-quality features fast and reliably, and by contributing to the production of code yourself.
Together with the Product Lead, you will form the core of marta’s product & engineering leadership — translating business problems into scalable, maintainable, and tested software.

Key Responsibilities

1. Hands-On Engineering & Architecture
  • Own marta’s architecture end-to-end: keep the system simple, stable, and scalable across 9 microservices and 5+ apps.
  • Drive pragmatic improvements (e.g. consolidation into a monorepo, shared library refactoring, dependency documentation).
  • Ensure test discipline and CI/CD standards: no merges without coverage, no undefined tickets entering sprints.
  • Monitor system performance, ensure load-testing, and maintain a strong operational foundation.
  • Code daily — design, implement, and review core features across backend and frontend.

2. Delivery & Team Execution
  • Partner closely with Product to define sprint goals, ensure clarity, and deliver predictably.
  • Review pull requests, maintain technical documentation, and ensure consistent code quality across the team.
  • Balance speed and quality — make trade-offs explicit and data-driven.
  • Track key engineering KPIs (bug rate, rework %, automation coverage) and drive continuous improvement.

3. Leadership by Doing
  • Lead a small team of full-stack and product engineers by example — mentor through code, not hierarchy.
  • Provide technical guidance, unblock teammates, and promote ownership in specific system areas (invoicing, matching, care onboarding, etc.).
  • Build psychological safety and trust in a lean engineering culture: focus, clarity, and accountability.
  • Work directly with founders to align tech decisions with business goals.

4. Automation & AI Integration
  • Collaborate with Product to embed agentic and AI-powered capabilities — both in our workflow (for faster delivery) and within the product (to automate operational tasks).
  • Use AI to accelerate testing, documentation, and rapid prototyping.
  • Continuously evaluate modern tooling that increases development speed without compromising maintainability.

5. Security, Reliability & Compliance
  • Own system security and compliance — ensuring audit readiness and GDPR alignment.
  • Close operational gaps and formalize disaster recovery procedures.
  • Foster a culture of reliability: proactive monitoring, incident documentation, and zero tolerance for untested hotfixes.
Your Profile
  • 8-12 years of professional experience in software engineering, ideally with previous responsibility for leading or mentoring technical teams (i.e. Engineering Manager, Head of Engineering or similar)
  • Proven ability to own complex codebases and ship high-quality products from concept to production.
  • Strong skills in TypeScript, Node.js, and React.
  • Solid understanding of backend technologies: Express.js, TypeORM, and PostgreSQL; familiarity with dependency injection (TypeDI).
  • Hands-on experience with AWS (ECS, S3, SNS/SQS, etc.), Docker, Kubernetes, and Terraform for infrastructure-as-code and scalable microservice deployment.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, CircleCI)
  • Nice-to-have: Experience with monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana) for microservices
  • A pragmatic mindset: you value technical simplicity, fast iteration, and business impact over theoretical perfection.
  • Comfortable working in a lean, fast-moving setup with high ownership and minimal hierarchy.
  • Skilled at balancing hands-on development with guiding engineering direction and enabling others to do their best work.
  • Excellent communicator in English, able to connect clearly with both engineers and non-technical stakeholders.
Why marta?
  • A mission with societal impact — redefining home care across Europe.

  • A small, high-talent team that values ownership, clarity, and execution.

  • The freedom to shape how product & engineering collaborate — from process design to tooling.

  • A founder-driven company where your voice defines the future of the product function.

About us
Why we founded marta.

When we were seeking 24-hour care for our loved ones, we often felt left alone in this complicated and highly overpriced market. In addition, we became angry when we realized that the agencies were taking most of the salary we paid our caregivers. After five years of unsuccessful search for a reputable agency, in 2020, we took on the mission to improve 24-hour care in Germany and ultimately founded marta.

In memory of Marta, who lovingly helped us care for our grandparents for years, we named the company after her.

We take our mission very seriously.

We firmly believe that caregivers will take better care of our loved ones if we at marta provide them with fair working and living conditions. Our goal is to fundamentally improve the 24-hour care market by building a platform that brings caregivers and families together without any other intermediaries. We enable caregivers to earn a better salary through lower placement fees without families paying more.
We are looking forward to meeting you!
